Cooper had his 9 month check-up last Wednesday...it started off rough with computer issues with their new computer system that wouldn't allow them to check us in (of course this had never happened before so they had no idea what to do)....after standing there for 20+ minutes wrestling a very heavy, wiggling baby and trying to reel in a 3 year old they decided to just have us go to the appointment while they tried to get us checked in. So we finally get into the room, but of course they can't chart anything without having us checked in so she started writing it all out to fill in later. Luckily while we were doing this, they got it working and we were back on track....anyways....
Here is our little tank's stats:
He weighed 22 lb 10 oz (90%), 29 1/2 in. long (89%), and his head was in the 94%.
He is growing perfectly and doing everything developmentally that he is suppose to!
The Dr. noticed he had a little fluid in his ears, indicating he likely had an ear infection, which would explain why he hadn't been sleeping well and the little fever he had a few days prior. I had just assumed it was his top 2 new teeth he was working on since he was typically happy all day. He decided to not do any meds since it seemed to be resolving itself.
I asked the Dr. to take a peek at Lucas's ears since he had made a few comments about not being able to hear me recently, and sure enough.....right ear had some fluid and his left ear had a pretty significant infection! I was pretty surprised about the infection since he hadn't complained about it hurting at all! He must have a really high pain tolerance, since with his 1st ear infection (that we knew about, anyways), he didn't start complaining until right before his ear drum burst! So anyways, to be able to get him some antibiotics they had to make him an appointment in the computers and get all his stats, blah blah blah...so by the time everything was all said and done, we were at the Dr. from 9:15-11. It was ridiculous!
To continue on the long week, Kaylin was the "lucky" winner of the oh so lovely public school prize of head lice (insert fetal position and sobbing here).
Sunday night I had noticed her scratching her head so I decided to take a look. I had been crazy paranoid about this ever since seeing a piece on the news how lice is getting worse and resistant to treatments. I didn't see anything major, and thought maybe it was just some dry skin stuck to her hair so we decided to just keep an eye on it. Monday morning while getting her ready for school I looked again and then I saw "it".....a creepy crawling little bug in my precious girl's hair!!! I called the school to see if it was going around and they said it wasn't, that they knew of. Well, she had to have gotten it somewhere!!
So I kept her home and was practically busting down the door of Great Clips 5 minutes before they opened to get "Ladibugs", a head lice product that was highly recommended from someone who has dealt with this nasty pest! Of course they were out because everyone has been coming in to get it because it's going around, but they called their other store which had one box left. So I sped across town and forked over the $45 for the stupid box, praying it had better work! I spent ALL day Monday treating all of us and cleaning our house from top to bottom (even though they say that it isn't necessary because they can't live off of hair long before dying....but I didn't care, they are just lucky I didn't burn the house down).
That night we had Kaylin's school conference with her teacher, who was surprised to see her because she thought she had the flu. The office didn't even tell her teacher that she had it! We did a second (unnecessary) treatment that night and sent her to school on Tuesday. I talked to the school nurse Tuesday night and they said that they don't send a note home unless there are 3 cases in one class. I was really wanting them to because I have a huge fear she is just going to get infected again if nobody else checks their kids! (stupid school policy!) She told me she was going to check some of Kaylin's friends on Wednesday just to see, and she must have found something because there was a note sent home that night about lice in the class. I wasn't thrilled that there was more in her class but A) I felt better that she wasn't the only one with it and B) now everyone would be (hopefully) checking and treating their kids. Kaylin also informed me that one of her friends told her she had lice too and now that I think back, about a month ago this little girl had nice long hair and one day she showed up to school with a short little bob! Coincidence?! Probably not!
So, to say this week has been beyond stressful (and itchy) would be an understatement. I have spent HOURS combing through her hair. Luckily I think we caught it early since I literally only found 3 actual bugs in her hair, but still....I am so glad I was paranoid because I'm sure it would have been awhile before catching it. I don't think I will ever fully recover from this traumatizing event. I will be treating her hair monthly and using that stupid comb every week and taking some serious preventative measures. It's going to be like Fort Knox up in her head!
I did feel slightly better after seeing Heidi Klum on Ellen yesterday talking about how she had head lice last week.
Side note- Kaylin is doing great and right on track for school :-)
So, how many times did you itch your head while reading that?! Too many to count? Yeah....me too....
