Today we had a BBQ with a few friends and the kids had a blast playing in the pool and on the slip-n-slide! Plus a few other pictures from this month.

We signed Kaylin up for swimming lessons through the city, which lasted for 2 weeks. It was probably the best investment we have made in awhile! She loved it and I can see that she learned a lot! It was a little chilly in the mornings, but it didn't stop her :-) The worked on holding their breath, blowing bubbles, kicking, arm movements, floating on their back, bobbing under water, and "walking" along the wall. They also got to do a lot of fun things like jumping in, using pool noodles and riding in a raft. She was the only one in her class that would just off the diving board, and she didn't really need any encouragement to walk down the board or jump! So proud of her! She passed this level with flying colors and her swim teacher had nice things to say on her report card: "She was a lot of fun to have in class and was always very nice and encouraging to the other students. She can move up to the next Eel level." They had an open swim this past Saturday night so we went as a family and Kaylin spent the 1st hour+ jumping in off the side (belly-flop style), then a good 15 minutes jumping off the diving board (she would have kept going but Daddy said no). The last 15 minutes we took her floaties off and she had no fear! She would just push off the wall and swim to Cory, who was about 4-5 feet away. She did struggle (obviously), but she did all the right things with her arms and legs, and she quickly caught on to tipping her head up to get air. As nervous as it made me to see her struggle, I also found comfort knowing that if she were ever in a situation by herself (which is highly unlikely!) she would have a greater chance of getting to the side of the pool (or something). I don't think I could have said that 2 weeks ago! I am so glad that we spent the money on swim lessons! Can't wait to put her in them again next year! Lucas was so patient the whole 2 weeks! He enjoyed all the sights and sounds, and lots and lots of snacks :-). Lucas kind of enjoyed swimming on Saturday, but he only lasted about 30 minutes. I think it was a combination of being cold and not really sure about the floaties. But we had fun watching Daddy and Kaylin, and walking around! |
