Lucas's class took a field trip to the fire station then to a park for a picnic and play! Parents weren't able to go to the fire station, but we were able to join them at the park. Lucas had a great time and was so excited (he is never easy to get out of bed in the morning and that day he was up and ready in minutes!). I love being able to be a part of his school experiences. He said his favorite part was riding on a school bus because they don't have to wear seat belts! For the kids' birthdays this year, we promised them a trip to the Mall of America to spend their birthday money at the American Girl Doll store and the Lego store. Kaylin bought a new doll and some clothes, she also got one of her doll's ears pierced. Lucas bought a huge Lego set that he'd been eyeing since Christmas (as well as the American boy doll her already got). We also took them on the rides in the MOA. They had so much fun riding all the rides! We invited the grandparents to join us and the kids absolutely loved having them come with us! After an exhausting day at the mall we went swimming in the hotel pool. It was such a fun weekend! This year there was a Harescramble (dirtbike race) in Jefferson so it was the perfect opportunity for family to come watch Cory race! Cory's parents, brother and nephew came to watch him and it was a great day for a race! Cory didn't end up finishing his 1 1/2 hour race due to a little dive into the mud, and misinformation from a guy who told him there was 45 min left of the race instead of just 5. Regardless, he had a lot of fun and was doing great! His shoulder he landed on is still a bit sore but he's in one piece so that's all that matters! He was so glad his family came out to support him! My brother-in-law also raced that day (after Cory) so we stayed for part of his 2 hour race to support him before we had to hit the long road home. We spent Easter in Jefferson again this year- we dyed Easter Eggs Saturday night, enjoyed a nice dinner out with my family and Aunt and Uncle. Sunday morning the kids had fun finding their Easter baskets and eggs from the Easer Bunny, a visit out to see Papa Hap, followed by lunch with Cory's family. We are so thankful to get to spend so much time with family now that we are back in IA! On April 12th, our "little" boy turned 5 years old. He has grown and matured so much over the last year. He has come out of his shell and is a lot less shy and a lot more opinionated! This year we did a donut birthday party for our donut-loving boy! Since it was also Easter weekend, the kids had fun doing a little Easter Egg hunt too! He is very excited for our upcoming trip this weekend to the Mall of America to spend his birthday money! He already spent some of it on his new "American Boy" doll he really wanted (we purchased it early in case they didn't have any in the store at the mall). Lucas, Lucas, Lucas....where to begin?
He has changed....a lot....and not all of it for the better. He is so smart, silly, loving and sensitive. Over the past few months he has really been testing his limits and pushing every button he can. He has been more aggressive, disrespectful and defiant and we are definitely not fans of it. Some days it's like we are living with a hormonal teenager! I'm scared for the teenage years already! Here's to hoping it is a short-lived phase and that our sweet, well-behaved boy will return soon. We are missing him ;-) He has learned so much this year in Pre-K and is always surprising us with new knowledge and skills. We had his Kindergarten round-up last week, which he was super bummed to miss because he was sick, but he is so excited for Kindergarten next year! Even though he tells me he wants to stay home with me all day and that he will miss me, he NEEDS to go all day! He is bored at home and needs to be challenged more (and I'm looking forward to not driving to and from school 6 times a day...12 miles a day). He still loves anything dirtbike, legos, motorcycles, playing outside 24/7, riding his bike, dressing like he's going to prom, cowboy boots, guns, etc. He is doing T-ball again this summer and is excited for that to start! We purchased a little dirtbike for the kids to share and he can't wait to finish getting it fixed up so he can learn to ride it (me, on the other hand, is fine with it being broke still ;-) ) He is definitely going to be a TALL boy! He grew 3 1/2" since his 4th birthday! When we measured him on our wall ruler, at 5 years old, he is 1 1/4" taller than Kaylin was at 6 years old. They are nearly the same size now, but Kaylin currently still holds the lead (but barely). It is only a matter of time before he passes her up! The wear the same size of shoe and almost the same size clothes! Despite his rotten attitude some days, we love him more than he will ever know. He brings a lot of joy, love and laughter to our home and we can't wait to see where his crazy personality takes him!
