While we were back in IA I had my friend take the kids' pictures. I thought they turned out great, especially considering it was really HOT out. Plus the kids were being kind of uncooperative- Kaylin with her fake smile, Lucas arching his back while trying to have Kaylin holding him, then Kaylin just dropping him to the ground.....that's why there are so many pictures on them on their bellies or laying on the ground, it was the only way we could get both of them cooperating! I am having a really hard time choosing which ones I want to order. If you know of anybody in the Kansas City, MO area, or Cedar Rapids, IA area looking for a photographer, please consider my friend, Chelsea, from Simply Chic Photography. She has great prices, is very patient with children, and does a great job! (I'd be happy to get you her info!) Thanks Chelsea!

I finally was able to get Lucas into the doctor yesterday for his 4 month check-up. We have different insurance so we had to switch doctors, which I was ok with since the last one didn't seem to care that Lucas screamed practically every time we picked him up. (But thanks to a couple of trips to the Chiropractor, that issue has been solved). Anyways, his stats are in and he's a big boy (as if we didn't already know that!) He weighed 17 lb. 1 oz (78%), 26 3/4" (91%), and his head was17 " (80%). At Kaylin's 4 month check-up she was 13 lb. 8 oz and 26 1/2 ", so about the same length just a few pounds less!! We didn't spend much time with the doctor, but she was ok. I'm not in love with her yet, partially because she called him chubby (which he is NOT! haha) and the fact that she told me he had a "bad sleep schedule". I guess I don't think that going to bed at 8/8:30 and usually waking to eat around 4/4:30, then sleeping until 7 is a bad schedule. Yes, ideally I would love for him to sleep until 7 without waking, but he is apparently not ready yet. Her solution was to push back his last feeding until 10 so he sleeps until 6. Well, I'm no doctor but that doesn't really seem like "sleeping through the night" to me, that is just changing the times around. For now I don't plan on changing anything because this schedule works for us and he's happy! Other than that, she seemed fine.
He got his shots and we are certainly paying for it today! He didn't sleep well last night, constantly tossing and turning and fussing. All day he has been cranky! He wants to be held, but doesn't want to be touched; he's hungry but won't eat; tired but won't sleep.....he is EXHAUSTING me!!! He just can't make up his mind about what he wants! Needless to say, nobody in this house was dressed until almost lunch time. When I find the energy I will try and do a post about Kaylin (and Lucas's) first Circus! One night while Skyping with my family, Cory was showing them Lucas's new favorite toy....newspaper. He loves to crumple them up (and possibly eat them!). Cory had ripped one and Lucas busted out giggling...it was so cute! Thought you might enjoy :-) Last week I gave Kaylin her 1st haircut and Lucas had cereal for the 1st time. My babies are growing up too fast! I've been wanting to trim Kaylin's hair for awhile now just to get it all evened up, it was pretty crazy in the back and getting really long! I am a little sad that it's so short now since I trimmed it to the shortest layer, but I can still put it in a pony tail and I know it's going to grow fast. She did really well considering, and kept asking if we were all done. I didn't think it turned out too bad, one side may be a little bit shorter but I'm just going to leave it or she will probably end up bald. All-in-all, it was good, but I definitely don't plan on doing any more of her hair cuts! We probably could have waited until the doctor gave us the okay for cereal, but we decided to go for it anyways! He was a little confused at first but ate every last drop! He loves it for sure!! Our little baby has done a LOT of growing up these past few weeks. It was like a whole new baby coming home to CA! He has started to roll over (from back to tummy), and now he does it almost instantly the second I lay him down! He even was on his tummy when I went to feed him in the middle of the night which I thought was maybe just a fluke, but when I checked on him this morning he was on his tummy again sleeping! I'm not ready for him to be mobile, because A) that means he is growing up, and B) We have some major baby-proofing to do!
It was a sad day at the Ott house-hold on Monday when I put the swing away and got out the jump-a-roo! I'm also making room for the highchair to come back out! I also had to put away all of his 6 month sleepers and get out the 9 month ones! He is such a happy baby, I can't believe how blessed we are! He is constantly smiling and giggling!! He is getting better at sleeping through the nights most nights (knock on wood), usually going from 8:30ish-5:30ish. So I can't complain! We haven't taken him in for his 4 month check-up yet, there was a mix-up with our new insurance and we are waiting to receive our new cards. So I'm hoping to get him in really soon because I don't want all of his future appointments to be thrown off! But I will post his stats when I get them! Since Cory was only in IA for one day, we didn't want to spend it running all over town trying to see everyone. So we had an all-day feast at my parents house and invited all of our family and friends to come see us before we took off! We were able to see lots of family and get lots of pictures! We updated our "Clingan" family picture to add the kids. We were so excited to finally get Lucas's 5 generation picture with his Great Great Grandpa who is almost 97 years old! We were also able to get a picture with all the Ott great-grandkids too. We made a special trip over to the hospital to visit Cory's Grandma Ott who was recovering from hip surgery. My parents have this weird "tree face" that they put on one of their trees that Kaylin was obsessed with and kept making her "tree face" whenever she saw it.
One night while getting ice cream up town Kaylin heard the bells in the Bell Tower chiming and asked about it, so my mom told her that maybe one day we could ride to the top of the Bell Tower. Kaylin never forgot...every time she heard or saw the Bell Tower she brought it up. So one day after lunch we made a special trip up the Bell Tower! She was in awe! She had been up it before when she was a baby, and this was (obviously) Lucas's first time. Kaylin loved that the bells were chiming when we were up there and there is a little window in the ceiling so you can see the bells. I have always loved going up in the Bell Tower and love that my kids get to enjoy it too. Kaylin actually bawled when we left to go home (it probably didn't help that it was right before nap and she was up early!). One afternoon we went out to visit "Grandma" Janet and see all of her horses and chickens! Kaylin kept telling me the whole way there "I love horses!", and we asked her if she wanted to ride one and she said "Yeah!!". I didn't really think she would get up on a horse and do it, but she proved me wrong! I rode with her (thinking that she wouldn't do it by herself, but she may have!) and she didn't hesitate at all when getting up on Two, the horse. She was yelling "Woo-hoo!" and saying "Walk-on" like Janet had taught her. Of course after a few times around she was all done, she wanted to go see the "kitchens" (chickens) and kitties! She helped gather eggs (the 1 that they found) and even pet a chicken (something I would have NEVER done!). She loved seeing the baby ponies and Job the donkey too. We can't wait to go back again! So we have made it home to CA, safe and sound! We had such a great time but it's good to be home to Presley and to get the kids back on a schedule! Back to catching up on our adventures! One day we went to the Ames water park with Aunt Katie, Uncle Chad and Aunt Tiffaney. Kaylin had such a great time, Lucas did too! Kaylin LOVED the big water slide! She wasn't "technically" tall enough to go down, but they didn't say anything! She went down probably 100 times! |
