Every year since our 1st wedidng anniversary, Cory and I have gone to Ledges State Park in Boone and walked around and had a picnic. Each year we add a new member to our adventure! Our first trip was with Gizmo, the next year we added Presley, and this year Kaylin joined us (except this year Gizmo didn't go because he was at Nana and Papa's!). The only addition we will have next year is the fact that Kaylin will be 1 1/2 and VERY busy, it will be like watching 2 kids! Due to the floods earlier this summer there was a lot of damage and the main road was closed to vehicles so we had to walk down. It is a very steep hill, going down is pretty easy (kind of a work out trying to keep yourself from running!) and going back up is just as bad! But it is all worth it. We walked down to the "lower ledges" first and Presley loved running around and splashing in the water! Kaylin loves to be outside and was awake the whole time despite the fact that it was during her nap time, and she never made a peep! We enjoyed watching Presley run around and taking some pictures together, then we went back up to the top and had our picnic and headed home for naps! It was a beautiful day and we can't wait to go back when Kaylin is old enough to splash around in the water too. Weebly isn't being very cooperative and won't let me add captions to my pictures (and the last few posts) so you will have to use your imagination!

September 18th My Aunt Mary married Jake Collins! The wedding was beautiful, here a few pictures I had on my camera (the rest are on my mom's camera). Somehow I didn't even get a picture of the happy couple! It was a lot of fun to see family we hadn't seen for a long time! Congrats Mary and Jake!
Another month has come and gone and Kaylin is in the 2nd half of her 1st year! Here are her Mongo pictures!
Hello everyone! Sorry it's been so long, we have been pretty busy! Kaylin has been keeping us on our toes, she is changing all the time and is really starting to get a personality. She is great at entertaining herself and playing with her toys. She isn't crawling yet, but I think it's because she knows daddy will get her anything she wants ; ). She will roll to whatever she wants and kind of scoots around, I have a feeling she will be crawling in no time (not sure how I feel about that)! Here are some random pictures from September!
My mom, Cory, Kaylin and I went to Reiman Gardens Friday afternoon with the intentions of getting some cute pictures of Kaylin with the pretty flowers, but apparently you need charged batteries to do that! So here are the pictures we got before both batteries for our camera died! We will have to go back again to get more! Kaylin loved looking at the pretty butterflies and flowers in the butterfly house.
So I have successfully made my first batch of home-made baby food! It is so easy and CHEAP!!! Plus I know everything that goes into it! I may do somethings a little different next time, but for the most part it turned out great! Now, we just have to try them! I used a baby food mill because it helps get the tough skins/peels off of some of the foods (peas, grean beans, blueberries, corn, etc.) and then put everything through the food processor to smooth it out and get all the chunks out. I made carrots, squash, sweet potato, peas, grean beans, mixed veggies (peas, carrots, green beans and corn), peaches, pears, and blueberry applesauce! The peas and mixed veggies were a frozen steam bag so I steamed them in the microwave and they put them through a baby food mill and then the food processor, added a little breast milk to thin them out and froze them in ice cube trays! The carrots, grean beans I steamed in a steamer and did the same. I used fresh green beans this time, but may try frozen next time. The sweet potatoes I wrapped in foil and put in the oven for about one hour then I took the skin off and pureed them. Squash I peeled, seeded and cut into chunks and put into a pot with a little water and steamed/boiled them and pureed. For the peaches and pears I peeled and and seeded them and put them into a pan and cooked them until they were soft, then pureed (there was so much natural juice I didn't have to add any liquid). I bought a bag of frozen blueberries, I thawed them and put them through the food mill and mixed with applesauce (I bought the big wal-mart brand of unsweeted applesauce for $1.50 and it goes a long way!) I seriously can't express how simple it is, and they all look and smell so yummy! I encourage all new moms to try it! Just to show you how much money you can save, this is what a serving comes down to....at the store you can buy the 2 packs of Gerber baby foods (right now she eats the stage #1 foods) for $.99 (so about $.50/serving), and 2 ice cubes equals 1 container.
For 1 serving- Green beans = $.21 Peas & mixed veggies= $.16 Squash= $.20 Sweet potatoes= $.11 Peaches= $.16 Pears= $.28 and drum roll please....... Carrots= $.09/serving!!! Can you believe it?! Ok, so I know I'm a freak, but I am obsessed now! And all the food I have made will feed her for over a month probably! |
