The Dr. thought he looked great and wasn't worried about anything, so we go back when he is 2 months old!
We have been busy enjoying our visit from my sister, there will be pictures to come soon!
I took Lucas in for his 2 week check-up today, and our "little" boy is growing like a weed!! I was kind of "worried" (more curious than worried) if he was eating enough since I'm nursing it's always hard to tell. He would seem to fight eating sometimes and always seemed hungry so I thought maybe he wasn't getting enough. They (the Dr.'s) want to see him back up to his birth weight by their 2 week check-up so I was curious to see where he was at....well, it's safe to say that he's definitely eating enough....he was up to 10 lbs 6 ounces (86%) and 22 1/2 inches (94%)! I had a lady in the waiting room ask me if he was 2 months old, the look on her face was priceless when I told her he was only 2 weeks!

Well, we have survived the 1st week and 1/2! My parents were here until last Friday to help (and they were a HUGE help! Thanks Mom & Dad!) Kaylin loved having them here and talk about them everyday, and of course they loved snuggling Lucas and keeping Kaylin busy. They took her to the Oakland zoo one day and we all went to the park another day. Kaylin still loves her "Lupu" and is always saying "Hi Lupu" and hugging him in the mornings (and all day, really). She will point to my tummy and say "Lupu come", I'm glad she understands that there isn't a baby in there anymore! She loves to help with Lucas and asks to hold him a million times a day. Poor Lucas never has space to himself, Kaylin is always budging in on his playtime and stealing his toys. He doesn't seem to mind though ;-) Lucas is doing great. He is a pretty good eater, when he isn't too busy sleeping that is! He has already kind of set his own routine and usually only wakes up once a night to eat. He has also started to be more awake for longer stretches during the morning and evening and likes to stare at his toys and crazy sister. I've included some more pictures of Lucas and Kaylin. Kaylin had fun playing with water and helping Daddy wash the cars this weekend. All in all, we are doing well and awaiting the arrival of our next visitor, Auntie Amanda!! Can't wait until Saturday! I think Lucas looks a lot like Kaylin when she was a baby....here are some pictures of the 2 of them wearing the baptism gown. What do you think?
Sunday morning we did a baby blessing/baptism for Lucas. The lady that came and did the blessing was a friend of a friend and came to our house to do the blessing. She wrote a beautiful blessing for Lucas that was personalized to our family and at the end of the little ceremony Cory and I did a candle lighting to represent the life we gave Lucas. It was perfect and the weather couldn't have been better! We are going to do a baptism back in IA in July/August when we are back for a visit (for family and so that Lucas can be baptised in the same church as Kaylin and I were) but since we aren't sure if Cory is going to be able to come back with us I wanted to make sure we did something here as a family. Plus I wanted to make sure Lucas was baptised in the same 6-generation gown as Kaylin and I wore to be baptised in and it's hard to say if he will still be able to fit in it come July! Well, as many of you know, Lucas Alan Ott was born early Thursday morning, April 12th, 2012 at 2:06 A.M. He weighed in at a whopping 9 lbs 7.8 oz and was 22 inches long! (And the dr. kept telling me he "felt" small, maybe 8ish lbs-ha!) He is perfect in every little way!! His birth was quite the adventure: don't worry, I spared the details ;-) I woke up from my nap around 2 having stronger contractions, but they still weren't consistent. We continued our afternoon and evening as usual and they continued to stick around. My parents were due to land in Oakland at 8:15 but their flight was delayed, putting them in around 9:30. Well, we had all planned on going to the airport to get them but with my contractions about 10 minutes apart I didn't think it was smart to drive in the opposite direction of the hospital! So Cory left to get them around 9 and Kaylin and I stayed home, hoping that Cory and my parents got back fast and my friend "on call" just in case! My parents and Cory got home around 10:30 and my contractions were getting closer and stronger. Around 11:45 pm they were about 5 min apart so we got our stuff around and headed to the hospital. By the time they got us all set up in a room, I was 5 cm dilated. My Dr. got there at 1:15 to break my water and I was already 6 cm. I told my Dr. to not go far because I knew it would go fast! By 1:45 I was 10 cm and I only had to push for 15 minutes before our "little" boy arrived! The nurses and Dr. were all impressed with how big he was and how well I did - yes, I must brag, I did not have an epidural or any kind of pain meds (not that we would have had time for that anyways!)! The timing of everything couldn't have been better (or more scary) that my parents landed in CA hardly 5 hours before he was born!! It was a very busy night on the labor and delivery floor, they had 3 moms come in in labor, having a total of 9 babies on the floor! So at about 6:30 we got kicked out of our room so they had one open in case someone else came in to have a baby. I had to share a room with another mom (which they said hardly EVER happens), I was disappointed at first since Cory couldn't stay with me and I wanted our own room so Kaylin and my parents could visit. At least the other mom was very nice and friendly. I was suppose to get my own room again in a "few" hours, but here it was at 2:30 pm and the mom I was sharing with was getting discharged right as Cory, Kaylin and my parents came to visit (they couldn't wait any longer). Kaylin got to come in first to see him and it was love at first sight! She just couldn't get enough of him (and still can't)! She kept hugging and kissing him and talking to him in her little high pitched "mommy" voice! It was nice to have our own room the rest of our stay. We got discharged the next morning and were home by 11:30 am! Presley was so excited to see us home, and even more excited about Lucas. He instantly knew what was going on and couldn't stop sniffing him and kissing his head. He curled right up next to him on the couch, taking his protective and loving position as "Big Brother" :-) We are all doing great and adjusting well!! I have added some pictures and a video of Kaylin and Lucas at the hospital! Our Easter was pretty laid back, Kaylin had fun searching for eggs around the house and seeing what the Easter Bunny had left her (a Minnie Mouse ball, Sesame Street memory/matching game, a new Minnie shirt, and candy of course!) After we had bunny-shaped pancakes and got dressed, she found more eggs that the Easter Bunny had hid in the backyard! It was such a nice day outside so we had fun spending time outside playing too! Saturday we decided to go to the city-wide Easter Egg Hunt that was held at a nearby park. We decided to just walk since it was only a few blocks away, and plus parking was going to be a nightmare. We ran into Kaylin's friend, Kyrie, again and had fun spending the morning at the park with them. We did the Easter Egg Hunt then they had free lunch for us and other activities through out the park. It was a lot of fun and Kaylin was sure wiped out! She barely made it home awake! Well, as you may have guessed, I am still pregnant...and not totally thrilled about it! Tomorrow is my due date, so if he's anything like his sister I will hopefully go into labor tomorrow (or earlier would be fine too!). At my last Dr. appointment on Tuesday I was still dialated to 3 cm, which I had been for a week :( I was for sure that he would have come by now, but he's apparently in it for the long haul. My doctor asked me about being induced and I told her I wanted to wait it out a little longer since I would rather not be induced! But if I'm still pregnant on Tuesday at my next appointment we will be setting something up! She won't let me go past 41 weeks anyways. I really want Lucas to be here when my parents get here Wednesday night (or at least shortly there after).
So, that's my latest update on our little stubborn baby, he's going to be just like his dad!! Here is my 39 week picture from last Friday... My friend was having an Easter Egg hunt playdate today and I didn't anticipate being able to go, but since someone is being stubborn and deciding to hold out on us, Kaylin and I decided we needed to get out of the house and see people again! She had a great time playing with all of her friends, I enjoyed some adult conversation, and we loved the Easter Egg Hunt! We are planning on taking Kaylin to the city-wide Easter Egg Hunt tomorrow at the park just down the street from us, unless Lucas decides this would be a good time to bless us with his presence....doubtful, but one can dream! |
