Cory's cousin got married last weekend so I took advantage to snap a few pictures of us all "dressed up". The kids picked out new cowboy hats one vacation, and we've hardly been able to get Lucas's off his head. He wants to look like and be just like Daddy! Love my perfect little family!

We have been enjoying our fair share of delicious sweet corn all summer long, and the kids love it! It took Cooper awhile to get the hang of eating it off the cob, but now his is a corn eating machine! How cute is this little Iowa boy!?
The beginning of August we took a little mini family vacation to Omaha, NE to go to the Children's Museum and the Henry Doorly Zoo. Trip started out a little rocky. The day before we left to drive to Jefferson, Kaylin and Lucas both had fevers and complained of a sore throat, so off to the Dr. we went to make sure it wasn't strep, which thankfully it wasn't. Just a virus that would have to run it's course. Thursday morning, when we were leaving from Jefferson to Omaha, Cooper woke up with a fever (go figure). So we loaded everyone up on ibuprofen and hit the road....nothing was going to stop us ;-) Our first stop was a quick lunch and off to the Children's museum. Everyone had a great time exploring everything! I think the favorites were the ball room and the special Pirates and Mermaids exhibit upstairs. I forgot the medicine in the car and after awhile, Cooper's fever had started to come back, and the other 2 were still recovering so we kind of fizzled out a few hours later, so we went to the hotel to check in and rest a bit before supper. As we were heading into the restaurant for supper, I noticed a weird looking cloud in the sky...it was a tornado!! (Ok, technically a 'water spout' aka a water tornado) It was really neat and terrifying at the same time! We stood and watched it for about 10 minutes (mainly to make sure it wasn't heading towards us!) and after it broke up we enjoyed a nice supper at Ruby Tuesday's and headed back to the hotel for some swimming fun! Cooper was still not feeling the best so he liked to just sit on the edge of the hot tub soaking our feet. Friday morning we headed to the zoo for a fun filled day of LOTS of walking! The kids loved seeing all the animals. There was a bit of whining regarding walking (ahem- Lucas), but we got past it and had a great day. I was a little disappointed with the zoo because it seemed like many of the animals were not on display. There were many areas where we would walk through and see nothing. We were hoping to check out the new splash pad at the end of day before we left, but the line was soooo long to get in and we were all just exhausted so we settled for a train ride. We ordered some pizza and picked it up on the way back to the hotel and had more swimming fun. The kids love when Cory makes them flip and the air, and Cooper enjoyed swimming a lot more and resting against me while floating on his back. He preferred the hot tub over the cold pool (can't say I blame him haha), he kept pointing at it while we were in the pool. We headed out Saturday morning and made a stop by the Gene Leahy Mall park in Omaha. They have these giant metal slides that are a lot of fun, but of course it was drizzly out so it was pretty much a bust. But we made the best of it and tried to go down a few times. We stopped by Carroll on the way through and had lunch with Grammy Chele and Papa Mark and went to check out Carrollfest with them. The kids had fun playing on some of the jump houses they had. It was a great vacation, even though not everyone was feeling their best. I can't wait to take them back again! Last week the boys had their yearly check-ups.
Cooper had his 18 month check-up. He weighed in at 26 lb (73%) and was 34 1/4 inches (95%) tall - according to the nurse....but when we measured him at home, he was right around 33" tall. The Dr. said he is growing perfectly! He warned me that he may start climbing on things soon....I laughed in his face! Haha! He had to get 2 shots, he cried a bit, but nothing that momma's love and a monkey sticker couldn't fix! They said he was one of the easiest 18 month check-ups they have had! He was very cooperative! Lucas had his 4 year check-up the next day. He was 41.8 lb (82%) and 42.5 in (81%) tall. Dr. said he was going to be a big, tall boy and that he was all ready for PreK. We addressed the concern we had about his speech, but he wasn't concerned due to the fact that he is still pretty young and that when he gets into school, it will likely get better. If it continues to be an issue, then we will do something about it later. But more than likely it will get better with age and school! Lucas had to get 2 shots and his blood drawn and he was a super champ!! He didn't cry for any of the shots or the 2 times that they had to poke him for the blood draw. He just sat very still and watched them. I was so proud!! (Unlike when Kaylin had to get her blood drawn and growled at the lab techs....) I have high hopes to take some 18 month pictures of Cooper soon (ya know, when it's not disgustingly hot and nasty out) and I will do a little update on our monster then :-) The kids played their last game of Tball last week. They had a great season and had lots of fun! For whatever reason, they never did Tball pictures this year, so we took some team pictures after the game and today I attempted to take some "nice" pictures of them. (Please enjoy the outtakes at the end....) Even with the sun to their backs, the sun is "too bright" for them to handle....usually Kaylin is the worst, but today Lucas wins the prize!! On July 20th, Cory's Grandma Ott passed away. Family gatherings will just not be the same without her. She is the heart and soul of the Ott family and will be greatly missed! I am so glad that I took so many pictures of her with the kids through out the years. I've never known someone who was quite as proud of her family as she was! Rest in Peace, Grandma! We love you! The kids and I went with my mom, Amanda and Claire up to Minnesota last weekend for the Ahmann Family Reunion (My mom's family-many of her Aunts, Uncles and cousins and families). We had a fun day seeing family I haven't seen in many years, and my mom got to show off her pride and joys (the grandkids....Amanda and I are old news, apparently). While we couldn't get all of my cousins there, it was nice to see the ones who could. It's hard to get us all together now that we all live in 7 different states across the country. |
