This past Sunday we took Kaylin to the Oakland Zoo for another little Birthday treat! My mom had bought us a family pass for the year for my Birthday and this was the 1st time we were able to use it! It was nice, sunny day which was perfect for the zoo. I had made the mistake by telling Kaylin that morning that we were going to go to the zoo and for the next 3 hours (especially when we got in the car) the only thing we heard come out of her mouth was "Zoo? Zoo? Zoo? Zoo? ZOO! (whinning and throwing a fit) Zoo Zoo Zoo Zoooo Zoooz ZOOZOO ZOOZOZ"....you get the picture....next time I won't tell her until we are like 10 minutes away from the zoo. Needless to say, she was very excited! When we first got there we went and checked out the kids' rides since we had gotten several free tickets with our membership. She couldn't ride most of the rides since she isn't tall enough yet, plus she would have to go by herself, which I just didn't see her doing. But they had a Carousal, which I could go on with her. I asked her if she wanted to ride it and she gave me an excited "Yes!" So on we went! She picked an elephant to ride, and was a little nervous when I put her up there and buckled her in, but was doing good. Then it started....the second it started going up and down and around she was DONE! (Little did I know until later that there were certain animals that stood still instead of going up and down, which she probably would have done better with). She started freaking out and crying, but I couldn't take her off since we were already moving. She kind of calmed down after a bit, but she may be scarred for life. After we traumatized our child we went into the zoo for some damage control haha! Kaylin was so excited to see all the animals and explore everything. It was a pretty nice zoo, not too big but not too small, and I love that we could bring our own food in to eat instead of paying a fortune for some questionable food. We were able to do the whole zoo (minus a few exhibits) in about 3 hours, incuding a short lunch break. I think Kaylin's favorite part was seeing the elephants! (Even though she tells everyone about the lions, which were laying down in the grass far away and you could hardly see!) Elephants have always been one of her favorite animals and this was the 1st time she got to see them in person. We can't wait to go back (probably when I'm not pregnant and get winded walking up a hill haha). So we basically celebrated Kaylin's Birthday all week :) So I'm going to do this in parts, so it doesn't get too overwhelming! On Sunday we Skyped with my parents after Kaylin's nap so she could "open" their main gift (a playhouse for outside) that way Cory could be here and Kaylin would actually be able to play with it while it was daylight out! She also got to open her main gift from Cory and I (a sensory table for outide). She was very excited about both! We can't wait to put different things in her table for her to explore, this time I put in beans and cars. Tuesday I made her cupckes (or "Happy Cakes" as Kaylin calls them) and decorated them after she went to bed. I went with a Minnie Mouse theme, since that is what she is really into lately. I got the idea off of Pinterest from a picture I saw and knew she would love them! The morning of her Birthday I made her a Mickey Mouse pancake for breakfast (with her help of course), and everytime I asked her how old she was she would say "HAPPY!". It was so cute :) At least she was saying "Two!" and holding up 1 finger by the end of the day! We had planned a little Birthday playdate with a few of her friends from our playgroup, but 5 of the 6 kids were sick :( Needless to say, I was really bummed at first, but then I remembered that she is only 2 and she doesn't know the difference. So my friend and her daughter came over and the 2 girls had their own little playdate and loved every minute of it! They played inside for awhile, ate cupcakes and then played outside! They had to leave early to get her son from preschool, so it was just me and Kaylin for lunch. We made mini pizzas together, and Kaylin had to taste-test all the ingredients. After nap, Daddy came home early from work with a suprise for Kaylin. He made her sit on the couch and cover her eyes, and gave her a fish! Kaylin was so excited! She loves going to see the fish at Wal-Mart and Pet-Smart. She Skyped with Nana and Papa for a bit before supper to open a few more presents, then we went to her favorite place to eat- A&W! She loves the "Oldies" music they play and can't seem to keep from dancing! When we got home we Skyped with Grandma Chele and Papa Mark to open some of their presents, and then with Auntie Manda and Uncle Adam. Kaylin couldn't wait any longer for cake, so Daddy and Mommy sang "Happy Birthday" and she loved blowing out the candles! Then she opened up the rest of her presents from Mommy and Daddy. I had made her some ribbon dancers (another idea I had seen on Pinterest) and she loved dancing around with them! And last but not least.....We had a "Birthday Playdate" with her friends from our "2010 Toddlers" playgroup. We all met at the park where the kids had fun playing and then we did cupcakes and presents. Needless to say, Kaylin got spoiled all week (what's new?!) but had a great time! We plan on taking her to the Oakland Zoo on Sunday, assuming the weather holds up! So, I haven't posted much lately, partially because we haven't done much to write about! We have been playing outside, going to a few playdates here and there, getting ready for baby (I'm now going to the Dr. ever 2 weeks! Ahhh!) and just chasing Kaylin around! I've been working on "planning" what we are going to do for her 2nd Birthday which is like 1 1/2 weeks away! We decided we aren't going to go all out, since she is only 2. (More about that after her B-day). So today I will just leave you with a few videos and pictures of the past few weeks! 1st Video- Kaylin was having a dance party in her bedroom one day, she has some pretty sweet moves :) 2nd Video- Last week Kaylin was "helping" me with laundry and to keep her from un-folding everything I had just folded, I gave her all of her socks and told her to match them (she has several different colors/characters)....she did just that, and blew my mind! There are so many things she knows that I don't even know she knows! So I got some of those paint sample cards from walmart to work on her colors and matching.....the colors are a work in progress but she can match them like a pro :) Makes a Momma (and Daddy) proud! |
